Rhythm in Light and Notations for Dirt Road Country have both been selected as finalists for the 2012 Heyson Prize for Interpretation of Place. The exhibition is on show at The Hahndorf Academy, South Australia from 6 October to 2 December.
This drawing, Leaning Figure, is a finalist in the arc Yinnar Biennial Drawing Prize 2012 in Yinnar, Victoria. I entertain myself by attending a life drawing group once a week – good discipline.
Painting the Bush at Gunyah is a finalist in the Copes Prize for Portraiture at Bowral’s BDAS Gallery (Sept 21-Oct 7). I painted this self portrait while thinking about what I would REALLY paint while at the Gunyah Artist Residency in September 2012. Picnic with Miss Parker has been selected as a finalist in the 2012 Fishers Ghost Open Art Award and Woolshed Wall has been selected as a finalist in the 2012 Fishers Ghost Works on Paper Award.
Woolshed Wall (pictured above) is part of the West of Wilcannia series, and Picnic with Miss Parker, (pictured below) while related to the same series, is in memory of my old long ago and most influential art teacher, Miss Parker.
Miss Parker was my art teacher at High school many moons ago. Her legacy to me was to instill knowledge, understanding and passion for all things creative, especially art and design. This pastel drawing is full of references and influences apparent in much of my work.
